Installation

TITLE:

"All Consuming"

MEDIUM:

Found materials (deck board, chain link fence, 2x4s, canvas, stool, receipts, polystyrene, glue, baby gate) and new fastenings

OBJECTIVE:

Bring attention to a current social, political or environmental issue by employing the elements of design in an installation. Practice design thinking to iterate and refine the concept, message and final piece.

APPROACH:

Our group wanted to create an interactive piece that confronted each individual observer's consumption habits, without making it so harsh that the viewer would become defensive or dismissive. Balancing a strong message with an invitation for introspection became our final installation of a place to rest, that also elicits a feeling of uneasiness and inevitability. We challenged ourselves by avoiding virgin materials wherever possible, which meant a fair amount of labor, and working within the confines of space and materials.
